CASSIDY COLVIN
Cassidy Colvin is a graphic designer and illustrator whose work studies personal identity and visual communication. Inspired by art history, modern politics, and accessibility, her designs examine how branding and packaging influence a viewer beyond the first glance. Cassidy continues to develop her portfolio by exploring how personal identity interacts with the technicalities of design and by studying how historical principles influence contemporary practices.
KALON COSMETICS
Kalon defies the standard over-masculine advertising of men’s makeup. This passion project was an attempt to open the door for a new audience. The packaging was designed to clearly explain the benefit of the products for users that are new to cosmetics.
CLAUDETTE COSMETICS
Designed as a semester-long brand identity project, Claudette is an innovative makeup brand that empowers clients to discover their inner artist. Claudette encourages creativity in all forms of beauty and draws inspiration from Impressionist painters of the late 19th century.
GRASP ART
Grasp is a branding and packaging project that addresses a gap in the market for artists and designers with disabilities. Inspired by my own struggles with carpal tunnel, Grasp offers ergonomic art supplies to artists who suffer with various types of repetitive wrist strain injuries.
DESERTING HER ALBUM
Deserting Her by Stranded Horse is a lonely but high-energy calypso album that tells the story of a cowboy stranding his lover in the Western Plains. This was one of my first design projects at Columbia, where we received two unrelated records and had to remix their design concepts to create a brand new album. The records I received were Oklahoma the Musical and Jump Up Calypso by Harry Belafonte.
BOOKSELF PUBLICATION
Bookself is a 68-page publication that uses Georges Perec’s Brief Notes on the Manner of Arranging One’s Books and Anne Garréta’s Bookselves to dissect my personal library. The publication examines how a person’s taste in books reflects their identity.
